Chalabre is a quiet, picturesque, medieval village with a population of about 1,200, surrounded by hills and at the intersection of three rivers.
There is a vibrant village life with far more shops and facilities than you would expect for somewhere so small.
Around the village
At the centre of the village is a historic covered market with lots of small narrow lanes running off it.
There is a municipal park with a running track and also a boules court by the river. There are two churches, Saint-Pierre and Church of Our Lady of Consolation.
Shops
The house is on a short cul-de-sac at the bottom of which is the Carrefour Express, a small supermarket selling all the essentials.
Beyond this, in the village streets, are a butcher, baker, greengrocer, newsagent, hairdresser, estate agent, bric-a-brac shop and florist.
There is a pharmacy, post office, bank, police station and town hall.
You can see clay being thrown in the pottery.
Every Saturday morning a small market takes place.

At the start of August there is the Chalabre en Sérénade festival with music from around the world.
There are Vide Greniers (Empty Attics) twice over the summer, similar to a car boot sale, with stalls throughout the streets selling a variety of goods.
In July, on Bastille Day, there is a big village celebration, with a firework display by the river at midnight.
The Tour De France often passes through the village, which is decorated for the occasion.
La Fête des Roses, on the third Sunday in May, is in the nearby village of Camon.
Hotel and Bar
The Hôtel De France in the centre of the village has a restaurant for meals, with a plat du jour (recommended dish of the day) served 12pm to 2pm.
There are also two bars, Café des Sports, which has a plat du jour and Café de la Paix, for drinks.
Several other restaurants are a short drive from Chalabre.
